November 2011 It is with great sadness that we have lost one of our fellow colleagues, and a dear friend. DONNA ACTON (nee DUNLOP) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Donna Acton on October 29th, 2011 at the age of 66. She was predeceased by her mother Beatrice and father James Dunlop. Left to mourn are her sister Deanna Miller (Jim) of Edlesiegh, Alberta; brother Robert Dunlop of Moose Jaw, SK; daughter Lisa Poissant (Dominic) and their children Benjamin, Kieran and Mia of Regina, SK; son Scott Acton of Moose Jaw and his children Aidon and Alex. Born in 1945, Donna was raised in Moose Jaw, SK where she graduated from Central High School. She married, raised her children and built her life in Moose Jaw. She went on to become a Licensed Optician where she spent 30 plus years as a valuable and faithful employee and business owner. Donna truly enjoyed visiting with her clients, co-workers and her many friends. In recent years, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and working in her garden. Her kind heart and giving nature will be greatly missed by many. We would like to give a special thanks to the staff at the General Hospital ICU, Unit 3E and the many close friends who visited with her and sent their warm wishes. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday November 4th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate and interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. June 22, 2011 It is a new day for the Opticians of Saskatchewan. On behalf of the legislative committee and the council of the former Saskatchewan Ophthalmic Dispensers Association, I am very pleased to publicly announce the Opticians Act has been proclaimed as law on June 15, 2011. This proclamation enacts a new Act, and a new set of regulatory bylaws, and incorporates the standards of practice that we set out a few years ago. It also paves the way for future expansion of the scope of practice for opticians in Saskatchewan. The SODA has always been an important part of the Saskatchewan Health Care circle of organizations. Being a College gives our members the professional respect you deserve. These changes will give us a much stronger and respected voice when dealing with government, and other organizations. As a college, our main focus will continue to be on protecting the public interest. We will do this by ensuring that our membership abides by the Act, bylaws and standards of practice and by continuing to ensure that our membership is properly educated.
